Founder Story • Mike Clarke & James Wan
From Inventing & Patenting a Consumer Product to Building a Global Manufacturing Partnership
Mike Clarke started his career in the early 1980s as a jeweler and Gemologist in the Dallas and Frisco, Texas area. Working hands-on at the bench and serving retail customers every day taught him that quality is never an accident: it comes from disciplined tooling, honest materials, and standing behind your work.
Years later, Mike invented and patented a home version of commercial jewelry steamers. Like many American inventors and business owners, he quickly discovered how difficult and expensive it can be to navigate tooling, injection molding, electronics assembly, and retail-ready packaging without a trusted partner on the factory floor.
That journey brought Mike Clarke together with James Wan of GEP in Shenzhen. Over the past nearly 20 years, Mike and James have built a rock-solid business partnership and personal friendship, manufacturing custom products, steel and aluminum molds, and high-end packaging for brand-name companies around the world.
In 2022, our GEP / GEPSS Group operation moved into our state-of-the-art 322,900 sq ft (30,000 m²) printing and packaging facility in Shenzhen, where more than 300 skilled employees operate advanced Heidelberg presses and converting lines under ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications.
